Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a pattern of difficulty sustaining focus, attention, distractibility, and/or impulsivity and hyperactivity. Without support and adaptability tools, it can make common, everyday life feel confusing and frustrating.
ADHD affects a group of skills called executive functioning that help us with organization, emotional regulation, and self control. ADHD is a pattern of difficulty sustaining focus, attention, distractibility, and/or impulsivity and hyperactivity. It can be common and manageable for many children and adults to experience lapses in attention, focus, and impulsivity. However, when ADHD symptoms are severe, persistent and interfere with important aspects of life like school and relationships, then a formal assessment and treatment is needed.
Treatment approaches may include a wrap-around team involving a medication prescriber, the child’s school (addressing extra support or accommodations), and family (practicing and skills learned in therapy). Non-medication approaches might vary by the age and need of a child. Working with others on your team, I can provide non-pharmaceutical, tailored, behavioral focused interventions for young children and adolescents. We would work to understand your child’s specific ADHD symptoms and develop a treatment plan to help your child…and you…cope. Reach out for support today.
